Advice provided by: Claire Moloney, LEED Green Associate, Cornell University Share Tweet EPA and DOE Open Contaminated Land to Renewable Energy The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA ) and Department of Energy (DOE) have partnered to create the RE-Powering America's Land Act, which seeks to identify polluted and contaminated lands for renewable energy development. The agencies estimate that there are 490,000 of these contaminated sites in the U.S., which make up nearly 15 million acres. According to EPA's website: "This initiative identifies the renewable energy potential of these sites and provides other useful resources for communities, developers, industry, state and local governments or anyone interested in reusing these sites for renewable energy development."
