The report says that by 2020 households will save on average 11 per cent - or £166 - on their energy bills because of Government policies, compared to what they would have paid in that year without action. It adds that energy bills are likely to continue to rise with or without policies, but that energy efficiency can deliver savings, highlighting the benefits of efficiency improvements through the Green Deal scheme. Paul King, Chief Executive of the UK Green Building Council, said: “DECC’s report shows that the only way is up for energy bills, and that most of the predicted price increases come from volatile wholesale gas prices. “It’s vital that UK households are protected from rising bills, especially given that one in five homes are now in fuel poverty.
