Myth busting the burden of zero carbon - new blog by our Senior Sustainability Advisor Louise Sunderland

Hot on the heels of the Government's announcement that it intends to water down the definition of a zero carbon home, the house building industry has revealed that it can already deliver homes to a higher standard than that proposed by Government. The Queen's Speech revealed that the zero carbon homes policy would indeed be delivered in 2016. However, the Government small print sets the standard for the home and the low carbon technologies, like renewables, attached to it at a much lower level than agreed and expected. The standard expected and as defined by the Zero Carbon Hub cross-industry group, was for an improvement of between 56 per cent and 60 per cent over 2006 Building Regulations for homes, and 44 per cent for flats.
