B rooklyn Grange, the Long Island City-based rooftop commercial farm, has announced plans for a new 45,000-square-foot installation at the Brooklyn Navy Yard . “We were looking to be creative, and we found a perfect use for this underutilized roof,” Andrew Kimball, head of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, told the New York Post . The installation will sit on a Navy Yard building adjacent to Flushing Avenue and Cumberland Street and should open by mid-May. In addition to operating the farm, Brooklyn Grange will also host a regular series of farmers’ markets at the Navy Yard. New York City’s DEP is providing nearly $600,000 in funding for the project; the company and the Navy Yard are each contributing $310,000.
