Set snugly along protected wetlands and just across from the popular Discovery Museum, Connecticut’s new Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School (IDMS) — a thematic elementary-level school that focuses on the teaching of earth sciences and math — is redefining what it means to build a successful learning environment. Blending green building principles, works of art, and an overarching message about the Earth and our place in it, IDMS reflects not only the school curriculum, but the surrounding community’s commitment to living sustainably on the earth, too. Designed by New Haven-based architecture, art and consulting firm Svigals + Partners, the school is themed around sciences, technology and global education.
