Mandatory carbon reporting a welcome and vital step

UK-GBC welcomes the @DefraGovUk announcement today that carbon reporting will be mandatory for all public companies

In a move that has been lobbied for by the UK-Green Building Council and a number of other groups, the 1,800 (approx) companies listed on the London Stock Exchange will be required to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions in their annual reports from April next year. The UK will be the first country in the world to introduce such company-wide requirements. The policy will be reviewed in 2015 when other large companies could be asked to follow suit. UK-GBC Director of Policy and Communications, John Alker said: “If you can’t measure your impacts you can’t manage them, so this long awaited announcement is a hugely welcome development.
