Book Your Place at the AECB Annual Conference to Visit this Straw Bale Passivhaus The AECB Annual Conference is taking place at the Enterprise Centre, University of East Anglia in Norwich on 15th and 16th July. New for this year’s conference are trips to local buildings including AECB Trustee Fran Bradshaw’s inspiring straw bale passivhaus. Places are limited for these visits so do book early as they will be on a first come, first served basis in order of registration. This new build straw-bale thatched house in Hickling, Norfolk, is partly contractor and partly self built. A primary timber frame in Douglas-fir supports the roof and first floor. The steeply pitched roof allows for an asymmetric gable, with bedrooms under the roof, and single storey store rooms under the extended pitch. Eyebrow windows to the south overlook the garden.
