Nike’s latest thought piece on sustainability “The Making of Making” starts with the words “Make no mistake. We hate sustainability.” and ends with the slogan “Better Materials. Better Products. Better World.” I understand where they’re coming from. Sustainability needs to deliver more than an annual report or, for that matter, more than “Corporate Social Responsibility” if it is to justify its place in the business lexicon. Most UK construction sector business are facing a stark choice right now. In the face of shrinking markets they broadly have three options.
