City Selects Developer for LEED Silver Shopping Center at Brooklyn Navy Yard: Another phase in the Brooklyn Navy...

T he Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation announced yesterday that it has selected Blumenfeld Development Group to build a 74,000-square-foot supermarket complex in the 6-acre Admiral’s Row site. In addition to the supermarket, the $60 million project will include 125,000 square feet of manufacturing space on the market’s upper floors, as well as four other buildings fronting Flushing and Navy Streets that will offer a mix of commercial, retail, and community space across 200,000 square feet. Calling it “really a suburban shopping center,” by the terms of the RFP Blumenfeld will be required to “take a sustainable approach to development to achieve at least LEED Silver certification for renovated and new buildings – the developer will be required to develop a Best Management Practice Plan in coordination with DEP to include . . . a green roof, planted areas and permea...
