Completed in Brazil’s capital of Brasilia just in time for this month’s Confederations Cup opener, the new Estadio Nacional de Brasilia Mané Garrincha will likely be the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified FIFA World Cup venue. Massachussetts-based LEED consultants, The Cadmus Group, supported EcoArenas in their quest to build the greenest stadium by reusing the original Garrincha stadium, built in 1974 on the same site. Everything taken from the 2010 demolition was either reused in the new construction, or sent to recycling co-ops.
