Green News: U.S. Government Gives LEED Rival a Boost

The General Services Administration, the agency in charge of the federal government's vast portfolio of real estate, is recommending that either LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED for Homes is the residential green building program from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). While this program is primarily designed for and applicable to new home projects, major gut rehabs can qualify. or an alternative system called Green Globes is suitable for rating new construction and renovation projects. The GSA has required basic LEED certification for 10 years, and LEED-Gold for the last three, when the government constructs new buildings or renovates existing ones, SustainableBusiness.com reports.
