The studies of the National University showed that in addition to experimental research, a key factor for successful implementation of green roofs in Colombia was education. During all stages of research, we found lack of knowledge and misconceptions about this sustainable practice was in public and private sectors, especially about extensive green roof systems. In response to this concern, this research project included a strategic diffusion plan to educate the key government entities and motivate further research in the academia. For academia, I formulated the first local university course on green roof systems, and it was opened in the bachelor of Architecture at Universidad Piloto de Colombia in 2009.
