Zero carbon in non-domestic buildings - evolution not revolution? New blog by Tom Taylor of @BREWatford

There will be technical challenges to overcome in meeting the 2019 ‘zero carbon’ target for non-domestic buildings, but the transition over the next five years and beyond should be considered as further progression on a much longer journey that has seen continued strengthening of the energy efficiency regulations over many years, rather than a daunting or impossible task. It is true that in addition to strengthening current targets, there will need to be changes to the technical detail of the regulations and the methodology for demonstrating compliance moving forward in order to improve transparency and ensure that compliance tools are fit for purpose. But this does not necessarily mean that wholesale changes are required. Calls to make inroads towards addressing the performance gap, improving transparency and increasing recognition of low carbon systems are all justified,...
