100 #Sainsbury’s stores to pioneer #recycled fridge heat #technology!!

Working with a firm called Geoscart, the retailer will save the heat produced in the refrigeration process, which would otherwise be lost as waste, and use this in its store’s heating systems, cutting energy consumption by more than 30 per cent. The technology works by piping the heat from fridges and storing it underground using subsurface rock, which has good insulating properties, before pumping it back into the store. Paul Crewe, Head of Sustainability, Engineering and Energy at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re delighted to be leading the way on this groundbreaking technology – helping to reduce energy use and carbon.
