Royal Society Warns Cities To Prepare for Climate Change by @DavidKThorpe

Governments are being called on to develop resilience strategies for cities to combat the double effects of a rising and ageing population and climate change, in a new report from the Royal Society . The report examines the effect of extremes of weather and climate, in particular floods, droughts and heat waves on people living in cities and outlines how improvements could be made to protect them by comparing the options available. It calls upon governments to act together at the international level to build resilience by sharing expertise, coordinating policy and pooling resources. If we do nothing, the report says, we will be put in the position of constantly responding in a costly way to disasters, but if we prepare in advance, by directing more national and international funds to measures that build resilience to extreme weather, the end result will be cheaper and save...
