Little Free Libraries and the Importance of the Unexpected

Little free libraries have begun to make quite the uproar. From permitting requirements to grouchy neighbors these small community-building installations have somehow become eyesores and targets of regulation. And aside from dashing community spirit and an opportunity to freely exchange books and entertainment, these little free library naysayers are dashing the unique unexpected elements that make our cities unique. The little free library embodies everything that communities and cities need to create an active and unique neighborhood. It is the real and original sharing economy and they are the origins of tactical urbanism. It is for the community good and it asks for nothing in return.
