In this ode to Cape Town, columnist Lwandile Fikeni takes a local lens to the mother city, see if you can identify with it; and, if it piques your interest – come and discover the City Bowl for yourself. To your left, you’re greeted by Disa Park (three cylindrical towers called Blink water, Platteklip and Silverstroom or more colloquially, ‘Tampon Towers’) as you make your way to the city. Traces of white walled homes, up there, in Devil’s Peak and Vredehoek, along the slopes of Table Mountain, merge seamlessly with the subdued greys of Tamboerskloof which sweeps along Lion’s Head to Signal Hill as you come down Nelson Mandela Drive into the City Bowl. A tall mural of one of the founding fathers of our democracy, uTat’uMandela, climbs up the Cape Town Civic Centre where Cape Town’s foremost theatre, Artscape , is housed.
