D.C. embassies pledge to increase energy efficiency at Greening the Embassies Forum

On October 5, representatives from more than 70 embassies joined together to sign a pledge with the U.S. Department of State and Washington, D.C.’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE ) to make their embassies greener and to use them as educational tools with staff and visitors. Before the signing, Kathleen Rogers, president of the Earth Day Network , discussed how the organization hopes to end the manufacturing of plastics, manage wildlife issues at a larger scale and inspire 2.5 billion people make an Earth Day commitment by the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020. Her engaging remarks were followed by a panel of embassy representatives discussing LEED certification and their “green” diplomacy across the city.
